Head's Welcome By Martin O'Sullivan

Headteachers Welcome

Welcome to the Turing House School website - I am delighted to be writing this as the headteacher of our exciting new school, established in September 2015.

A new inclusive secondary school for Richmond was envisioned by a small group of parents who care deeply about their local area and its people. Turing House School is the result of their determined effort and the fantastic support they received from the local community, as well as from the Russell Education Trust, who have opened four other successful new schools in recent years.

Having been a part of Turing House School since the very start, I stepped into the privileged position of Headteacher in September 2019 when our founding Head became CEO of the Russell Education Trust. Turing House is a wonderful community in which staff and students work collaboratively to allow every individual to reach their full potential. Every member of staff at the school is committed to ensuring that all students have the best possible educational experience. I consider my time at Turing House School (THS) to be the highlight of my professional career and I am thrilled to be leading the school in the next part of its journey.

About Me:

I am an experienced senior leader, and previously trained Ofsted inspector, who, prior to becoming Headteacher, was the school's Deputy Head. I am also currently the Russell Education Trust's lead for Religion & Philosophy and Post 16 Education. Before moving to Turing House School, I was the Deputy Headteacher at Cheam High School in Sutton.

I grew up locally and attended The Rosary School in Heston, and then Gunnersbury Catholic School for Boys in Brentford. I have taught a range of secondary subjects including History, Law, Politics and, of course, Religion and Philosophy (RP).

At Cheam High School, I line-managed several departments. My key role was in leading whole school Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form) education. During this time, Cheam High School gained three outstanding Ofsted inspections, and the Sixth Form grew significantly, eventually reaching over 600 students!

I am a keen cyclist, competing in time trials across the country and, in 2017, I represented the UK at world amateur age group level. My Mastermind topic would be the band, Queen.

My mission is to ensure that all young people reach the end of their education with as many doors open to their futures as possible, not only academically, but by ensuring that students are polite, well-mannered members of society, able to show the absolute best of themselves to potential further education providers and employers.
